2022 update: I read this in high school and I wasn't too impressed, but now it feels like living in America with daily gun violence.

Wow! This is as poignant today as when it was published in 1949. It's a fantastic example of how a great writer can vividly convey so much in a short story. Irony, illusion, and symbolism are the tools Jackson uses in this compelling, cautionary tale of mob mentality and how a society can hold on to old traditions.
