Reread from 2000… still not for me. I am trying to understand why it was as long as it was.

This books narrative is what did it for me. What's more - I saw the movie initially and loved it, but, the book goes beyond. My opinion of the movie has not changed - I still enjoy it; however, there is so much more story in the book that the movie misses a lot of the gist entirely. It almost seemed real.

I don't know. Some of the reviewers I trust most are right here giving this 5 stars, and I'm just missing the boat. I like the way Eugenides writes and I just (also kind of on my own on this one) loved The Marriage Plot. I rated the book to be a solid 6 because the novel was boring, until the end. The many different characters that tried to build character into the 5 girls had the opposite effect on its intentions. It felt unnecessary, and hard to remember most details about each person.
