The Guest: A Novel

Description

New York Times bestselling author B. A. Paris captivated psychological thriller readers everywhere with Behind Closed Doors. Now she invites you into another home full of heart-pounding secrets, in The Guest.

Some secrets never leave.

Iris and Gabriel have just arrived home from a make-or-break holiday. But a shock awaits them. One of their closest friends, Laure, is in their house. The atmosphere quickly becomes tense as she oversteps again and again: sleeping in their bed, wearing Iris' clothes, even rearranging the furniture.

Laure has walked out on her husband--and their good friend--Pierre, over his confession of an affair and a secret child. Iris and Gabriel want to be supportive of their friends, but as Laure's mood becomes increasingly unpredictable, her presence takes its toll.

Iris and Gabriel's only respite comes in the form of a couple new to town. But with them comes their gardener, who has a checkered past.

Soon, secrets from all their pasts will unravel, some more dangerous than they could have known.

I kept waiting for the plot. When I finally check to see how far I had, I was 90% done. And nothing had happened in the book. I love books on grifters, con artists. But this one was such a letdown. The writing was good, but The story was so thin, and it never grabbed me. And then the end, what an FU to the reader.

This novel was in an interesting format - very slow burn and then the epilogue had all the answers. The epilogue really saved this book. 7/10

Slow burning drama, I kept waiting on what is going to happen. I am giving it 3.5 stars but I had to wait till the end to hear what happened. I didn't see it coming, but I also kept waiting on what is going on...

I power read this book in less than 24 hours! I just couldn't put it down it was SOOO GOOD! B.A Paris knows how to write, she never fails to engage her audience and keep them wanting more. The development of the entire novel was both shocking and thrilling. I didn't expect the ending whatsoever, in fact I was shocked. If you are looking for an engaging novel with twists and turns, this is the novel for you!

I’m not sure how to feel about this book yet. I heard so many people compare it to uncut gems or even parasite, and it’s good but not THAT good. If you, like me, heard a lot of buzz about this book then you already know it’s a quick, easy read and definitely full of tension.

For me, it was interesting but not perfect. And I understand that’s the point of the story - its a book with no closure or conclusion so just know that going into it.
