During a business visit to Count Dracula's castle in Transylvania, a young English solicitor finds himself at the center of a series of horrifying incidents. Jonathan Harker is attacked by three phantom women, observes the Count's transformation from human to bat form, and discovers puncture wounds on his own neck that seem to have been made by teeth. Harker returns home upon his escape from Dracula's grim fortress, but a friend's strange malady -- involving sleepwalking, inexplicable blood loss, and mysterious throat wounds -- initiates a frantic vampire hunt. The popularity of Bram Stoker's 1897 horror romance is as deathless as any vampire. Its supernatural appeal has spawned a host of film and stage adaptations, and more than a century after its initial publication, it continues to hold readers spellbound.

It was fun to finally read this one, after reading more modern vampire tales. Clearly, they all owe homage to Stoker. This is told primarily through journal entries of the key characters as they are faced with and begin to grasp the extent of the danger at hand. Well told story.

DNF at 18%
- beginning section was what i expected the book to be, & was surprised when it kept going
- like other 1 star/DNF reviews, this is BORING
- i wish the rest of the book was like the first section when the main character meets Dracula

Definitely a classic for a reason. I love the Harkers so much, Mina the most. If you know anything about Bram Stoker outside of his fiction writings, his opinions jump out at you, but if not, it is easy to overlook. Warning: he does use slurs that were common at the time but definitely made me jump in shock for a second.
