New York Times Book Review

A Black sheriff. A serial killer. A small town ready to combust.

The new novel from New York Times bestselling and Los Angeles Times Book Prize-winning author S. A. Cosby, "one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction." --Washington Post.

"An atmospheric pressure cooker." --People

Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. But after years of working as an FBI agent, Titus knows better than anyone that while his hometown might seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle, secrets always fester under the surface.

Then a year to the day after Titus's election, a school teacher is killed by a former student and the student is fatally shot by Titus's deputies. As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes and a serial killer who has been hiding in plain sight, haunting the dirt lanes and woodland clearings of Charon.

With the killer's possible connections to a local church and the town's harrowing history weighing on him, Titus projects confidence about closing the case while concealing a painful secret from his own past. At the same time, he also has to contend with a far-right group that wants to hold a parade in celebration of the town's Confederate history.

Charon is Titus's home and his heart. But where faith and violence meet, there will be a reckoning.

Powerful and unforgettable, All the Sinners Bleed confirms S. A. Cosby as "one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction" (The Washington Post).

An engaging thriller that unraveled like a mystery.  The lines of the small town were so artfully drawn I felt like I could feel its oppressive borders. The characters came alive even as they were dying on the page and I worried that no one was safe.  This story was a good mix of small-town southern politics and scary urban legends. I was worried when it started with a school shooting, but it quickly moved past that, into darker territory.  I lov...read more

Excellent crime drama. There may be a serial killer, but the social context makes it an exciting read.

Mystery and crime drama is not my usual genre but this book follows like an HBO True Detective, triggered by a disturbing traumatic crime to unravel a psychological twists and turn of a small town. I like how the author kept the narration close to the feelings of the character and the town to really set a tone. This book had me questioning what am I reading and the journey of the plot but to get to the ending, I felt like I invested into a great ...read more

This book has so much potential, but plot holes, sloppy mistakes, and poor editing doomed it. Trying to quote a Bible verse, the author wrote"John ten through twelve" instead of John ten verse twelve. A minor Caucasian character was written as "Jaime" (a Spanish name) vs "Jamie." The author is ignorant about how Amber alerts work. The main character said his colleagues were going to get dirty, and if his own uniform got dirty, he'd give the racis...read more

This book had me all in. I was on edge with the crime , wasn’t sure if I could handle it. But I couldn’t put it down.
