A Slow Fire Burning: A Novel

With the same propulsion that captivated millions of readers worldwide in The Girl on the Train and Into the Water, Paula Hawkins unfurls a gripping, twisting story of deceit, murder, and revenge. When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them. When it comes to revenge, even good people might be capable of terrible deeds. How far might any one of them go to find peace? How long can secrets smolder before they explode into flame?

A quick read mainly due to the fact you want to know what happens to the character and have to read through a few chapters of other character’s POVs. I wish there was more explanations of things and the last 100 pages makes it redeemable with the twists and plot.

This novel revolves around a young man’s murder and 3 broken female characters. One thing which I like about this book is that it explores deep into the characters. It has more female characters than its male counterparts. It shows how monsters are not just made but can be born too. Well, what a whirlwind of a book. True twists you come to expect from a Hawkins novel. Some really well developed characters. I did enjoy how things were revealed and would recommend this to fans of the genre. You will not be disappointed.

I love Paula Hawkins and this book was no difference. A mystery from a bunch of different and interesting perspectives, and we're left in the dark basically the whole time.

Not what I was expecting at all. It's unfortunate because I wanted to like this book, I really did! I stuck with it, even when more than halfway through the book, it was clear it was a bust. The majority of the book was really unnecessary filler while the storyline didn't pick up till right at the end. I loved Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train but this book was just everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
