Decidedly not for me, although I understand the appeal. Psalm of the Wild-Built is a fantasy novel with low ambitions. It is not out to tell a grand story of empires collapsing and friends becoming enemies. It is not out to twist and turn and leave you restlessly turning the next page to see what comes next. Ah, I like the characters but the message was too spoon fed. I felt a little hit over the head, assumed philosophy as fact. But it's not like I disagreed... just not earned.
Not a bad story by any stretch of the imagination, but just not my cup of tea (pun intended). This is a good story of a budding friendship between a robot and a human as well as a "discover who you are" kind of reflection for the main character, but it just didn't grab my attention like I thought it would.
Interesting story - the start of a series set in a future world, presumably. Dexter is a tea monk and the robot he meets and befriends is Mosscap, named for the first living thing he noticed. Chambers has created a believable world, inhabited by creatures with agency. Both Dexter and Mosscap are searching for something and they end up sharing the road for a while as they search. This book is relaxing, thoughtful, inspiring and funny. An instant favourite of mine and my hubby’s. We now want to be tea monks.
