Read the book then saw the movie. The ending of the movie was better in that it did not include the affair. I don’t see any literary benefit to the affair, and it also makes the characters less likable. There were also some “woke” sections that seemed forced; it felt the author wanted to have this aspect in the book but no idea where to put it.
