Interesting. A little confusing. This story seems to be about a young doctor discovering truths about her grandfather doctor,and about people's lives in a war; but maybe it's just about the tiger's wife.

This novel was more beautiful than I thought it would be. I heard about it through the New York Times Book Review and Oprah's magazine and was impressed that a first time novelist, at age 26, made such an impact. A well deserved impact.

I think what I liked best was the style she wrote in, how she left so many things unwritten and really did leave us without a lot of "facts". Everything feels like it's general except for the stories. I'm not sure ...read more

I wanted to like this book. I'd hear good things about it, and it had excellent reviews. But it just didn't do it for me. I kept looking for nuggets along the way - something special to emerge, questions to be answered, etc. I felt like something had gotten lost in translation, and I just didn't get it. Or just maybe there wasn't anything more to it. But in the end, I think it just wasn't written for me.

Oh, I loved this. It's more fantasy than magical realism to me, and it was very well done. Also, the preference of the minor characters for superstition over modern medicine makes it extremely relevant now that we're seeing it playing out in real life during the Covid crisis.
