Coming of age story told in poetry. Xiomara is a poet, but the only person that knows for a long time is her twin. Growing up in NYC, the daughter of a Dominican immigrant, she tries to be the daughter her mother wants. But her body betrays her - sprouting early and fully, and although the younger twin by an hour, she is the protector of her brother. Poignant, compelling.
Soooo good! I listened to this book in audio form because she narrates it herself and it was just amazing.
