This was much more different than the movie; a lot of scenes from the movie were in the book but the setting was different. It explained a lot more than the movie did and had such beautiful strong female characters in it! In a time where there was segregation in the South this novel really showed how society was for both sides. This novel was a true gem!!

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the style and flow of the stories as told by the different characters. Very good!!

Wow! What a compelling story of race relations and their consequences. This was a masterfully written chronicle of three women from completely different lives, who united at a watershed time to make a difference. We have come a long way from 1960's America in some ways, and yet, I suspect this book would still be considered controversial to many people. This was a painful delight to read. This book was definitely one to make you laugh and cry. To be able to visit this time period was truly interesting. As this book to you there. It was like being there. Very vivid!
