So sad. Terrible, awesome grace is demonstrated by Pastor Drum and Jake as the family navigates unspeakable horrors in the summer of 1961. Frank is the narrator of the story and as we see the events of that summer unfold through his 13 yr old eyes, it’s easy to remember the simplicity of the era or is it merely youth that provides the simplicity? Themes of faith, family, integrity shine through.

Ordinary Grace is an extremely well-written novel with compelling characters. The narrator is the 13 year old son of a Methodist minister living in Minnesota in the early 1960's. A few unexpected deaths occur in his small town during the summer of 1961. I did not find the issues of faith to be overdone although there are matters of faith addressed throughout. Too often "Christian" novels are filled with nausea-inducing preaching. This novel deals...read more

All time favorite. Listened to the audiobook the second time around and solidified it as a modern classic in my mind. Highly recommend.
