Not sure what the big hype about this book is... I get the feeling it was was reviewed by a bunch of other lonely, single, intellectuals on the verge of a mid-life crisis?

This reads like a coming of age story, but can a 50 yr old gay man only just be coming of age?? Funny. Irreverent & contemplative. Less is running from himself his entire life. And we see him at a crossroads here. He is revealed to himself in layers, with each experience in his year of avoidance travel. And as he discovers his true self and purpose, the reader is nurtured along a similar thought process.

I don't know if this review will have spoilers or not but I'm just putting that just in case. When I started this book it was not something I would normally read. But you know I'm 50 and this book is about that time of life and reflection. And looking back and and seeing love from many different viewpoints because you see love differently at 50. I was okay. This book was mediocre at first but then it revved up and you really started to care about...read more

I really enjoyed reading this book and it had some beautiful sentences. Light enough that you could enjoy it on the beach despite its literary nature.
