All the while that i had been reading this book I couldn't help but think "Is this just 'Fight Club' for divorced women?"

Hear me out - Both The Narrator in Fight Club and Elizabeth Gilbert, are fueled by dissatisfaction with their lives. both have a spiritual emptiness, both seek a guru (in the Narrator's case it is Tyler Durden while in Gibert's story, she finds a guru in India and a mystic man in Indonesia. Insightful at times, annoying at others. As an intellectual person who has never belonged to a religion, I identify with Gilbert’s description of God and her journey to finding a relationship with the divine. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was insightful,at the same time as it was witty. While I haven't experienced the deep spiritual searching Gilbert describes, many of her experiences ring true for me. GIlbert is obviously a skilled writer, sating our need for human co...read more

Another good Oprah book. I wasn't sure about it, but the chapter on Italy, with the great descriptions on the scenery and the food, pretty much had me hooked. The sections were about Italy (Eat), India (Pray), and Indonesia (Love).

Excellent book that pretty much anyone would like.

Would have rated higher but the first third of the book I was annoyed at Elizabeth’s whining about her depression and divorce and almost put the book down. Glad I didn’t because the rest of the book was beautiful and redeeming.
