I think the movie entitled The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) is my favorite Christmas movie, but I had not read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens which was originally published in December 1843 (Slater xi). According to the scholar of Charles Dickens, Micheal Slater, Charles Dickens did not invent the traditions or morality of Christmas in England in the mid-19th Century, but A Christmas Carol was written in such a way that heavily influenced ...read more

I saw the movie many times before I read the book, and the movie is very similar. Reading the book was a bit more enjoyable though because you get more of Scrooge's internal world. It's such a feel-good treat.

Almost a month after Christmas, and I've finished "A Christmas Carol."

Most of us know the story, so I won't recap that. My knowledge of the tale however, had been limited to that of Scrooge McDucks and little Mickey Mouse eared Tiny Tims. This was my first Charles Dickens experience, and I liked it. His writing doesn't sound as pretentious as some of the other classics.
