This book is amazing! I love how it unfolds with Martha the midwife at the center of the drama.
The setting of the scenes occurs during a Massachusetts' winter a few years after the American Revolution. I love historical fiction, so this was right up my alley.
The romance between Martha and her husband was epic, and the language was beautifully written.
This historical novel is another example of the little respect and the amazing tenacity of women in the 1700’s. The excitement of women characters gaining access to education and the mission to help others provides the reader opportunities to get involved cheering for them while evoking frustration as they face their challenges. Easy , enjoyable read!
Historical fiction about a real life midwife, Martha Ballard. Post-Revolutionary and French-Indian war events shape her life and practice. Well written with extensive author notes.
